Howard Wilson Brown

GREENWOOD - Howard Wilson Brown, of Greenwood, formerly of Hedgesville, W.Va., was resting at the home of his daughter in Connelly Springs, N.C., when he departed this life Sunday, Sept. 19, 2010, to "go fishing" on the Golden Shore. He was 73 years of age. Howard was born July 1, 1937, in the state of Delaware, the son of the late, Victor Messick Brown Sr. and Ellender Jerusha Horsey Brown. He graduated from John Bassett Moore High School in Smyrna in 1957 and was employed by General Motors in Martinsburg, W.Va., from April 1968 to June, 1992. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose for over 40 years and a lifetime member of the Hedgesville Volunteer Fire Department in Hedgesville, W.Va. In addition, he was a member of the Delaware Mobile Surf-Fisherman, Inc., for numerous years and part of the Army National Guard in Smyrna from 1954-1960. He is survived by a daughter, Alice Halstead and husband Mark of Connelly Springs; three sons, "David" William Brown and wife Debbie of Martinsburg, W.Va., Ronald Brown of Martinsburg, W.Va., and David "Wayne" Brown and wife Susan of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; a sister, Mary Dutton and husband Roger of Clayton; five brothers, Victor Brown Jr. and wife Betty of Plumerville, Ark., Ernest Brown and wife Karen of Harlinger, Texas, Raymond Brown and wife Barbara of Clayton, Leroy Brown and life partner, Stanley McIntyre of Poultney, Vt., and Ronald Brown and wife Shirley of Anderson, Calif.; 16 grandchildren, eight great-grand-children, and numerous nieces and nephews. His wife of 40 years, Ethelyn C. Brown, and two brothers, John "Jack" Horsey and James "Jimmy" Brown preceded him in death. A Memorial service will be 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 2, 2010, Harrington Moose Lodge- Hwy. 13 South, Harrington. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Delaware Hospice, 911 South Dupont Highway, Dover, DE 19901; or Hedgesville Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 135, Hedgesville, WV 25427. Condolence messages may be sent to www.jenkinsfuneralhome.net. The Brown family has entrusted arrangements to Jenkins Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Newton.
