Howard 'Mr. Hootie' Solomon Joy Jr., 82
SEAFORD - Howard "Mr. Hootie" Solomon Joy Jr. of Seaford passed away Monday, Oct. 8, 2007, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford. He was 82.
He was born Feb. 21, 1925, in Lansdowne, Md., son of the late Howard Solomon Joy Sr. and Ira (Jones) Solomon.
Mr. Hootie had a long career as a master plasterer in the construction industry with Schatz & Schatz Co., Houston.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Lansdowne and the American Legion Post 17, Lewes.
Mr. Hootie enjoyed fishing, gambling at the casinos and telling jokes.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, William Joy.
He is survived by his longtime friend and companion, Frances Bertrand of Lewes, and several nieces.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Monday in Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes.
Interment will be private.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to American Legion Post 17, American Legion Road, Lewes, DE 19958.
