MILFORD - Herschel W. Billings, of Milford, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2011, at the County Rest Home in Greenwood. He was 94. Herschel was born in Harrington, Del. He had worked at Economy Auto, Burris and then went into business for himself, owning Billings Tire & Service, until his retirement in 1987. He was a member of the Temple Lodge # 09 A.F. &A.M., FOP Kent County Lodge # 3, Kent and Sussex Scottish Rite Club, Odd Fellows, Nur Temple Shrine, a director on the Board of Milford Trust, Shawnee Country Club, and the Milford Chamber of Commerce. He enjoyed playing golf. He also enjoyed conversation with all his family, friends and business associates. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Dorothy L. Billings; mother, Edith Billings; sister, Thelma Hanson; and two brothers, Ralph and Powell Billings. He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Clarence and Audrey Billings; sister and brother-in-law, Audrey and Carl Wright; sisters-in-law, Rita Billings and Ruth Ann Sammons; children, Dianne Barnard and husband William, Steven Billings and his wife Annette and Holly Giles and her husband, Gary, grandchildren, Michael Barnard, Michelle Wright, Bryan Miller, Stacey Giles and Adrienne Brozefsky, Ashley Billings; step-grandchildren, Bryan Giles and Brandon Giles; great-grandchildren, Kamaran Miller, Carissa Giles, Kyleigh, Jared and Brandon Wright, Paige Barnard, Drew and Ava Grace Brozefsky. Funeral Services will be 1 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011, in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 NW Front St., Milford, where friends may call after 11 a.m. Entombment will be held in Milford Community Cemetery, Milford. Contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
