Herman M. MacDonald, 81
DOVER - Herman M. MacDonald, of Dover, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2007, in his home. He was 81.
Mr. MacDonald was born Dec. 1, 1925, in Caledonia, N.Y., to the late William Ross MacDonald and Cordelia (Crowe) MacDonald.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Corps of Engineers.
He worked as a tower operator for General Foods, retiring in 1982 after 33 years of service.
Mr. MacDonald was an avid woodworker and was known for his whimsical windmills. He loved hunting, fishing, camping and watching NASCAR. He also enjoyed being out in his yard where he loved to watch the birds enjoy his handcrafted bird houses.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Pauline Mann MacDonald; four daughters, Connie Grice and her husband Paul of Georgia, Carol Gillenwater and her husband Noah of Hartly, Colleen Budd of Dover, and Cheryl Vinciguerra and her husband John of Milford; a brother, Clifford MacDonald of Florida; two sisters, Thelma Falcone and Ann Dillon, both of upstate New York; seven grandchildren, Brian Brown, Tammi Campanello, Paula Hertzig, Michelle Gillenwater, Jennifer Cohen, David Vinciguerra and Joshua Budd; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be noon Monday in Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford St., Dover. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to noon. Interment will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Delaware Hospice, 911 S. Dupont Highway, Dover, DE 19904.
