Johnson, 87 HARRINGTON - On Dec. 8, 1924, the Lord blessed Edward and Mabel Nichols with Helena Nichols. Helena lived a full life until she was called home to be with the Lord on March 2, 2012, at the age of 87. She was a lifelong resident of Harrington. Helena was a great cook and worked all of her life at various companies and organizations. Her last place of employment was the Townsend Building Cafeteria in Dover, where she worked for 10 years, before retiring. Helena's first marriage was to Lawrence Wright and out of that union her son Wendell Wright was born. Later in her life, she was married for 26 years to Francis Johnson and they were blessed with a daughter, Glenda Johnson. To know Helena, was to love her; for she loved the Lord and was a long-time member of St. Paul A.M.E Church in Harrington. She was a faithful servant of the Lord in various capacities until she became homebound over the past 5 years. She served as an usher, choir member, and missionary. Her favorite scripture was Psalm 34. Helena's favorite past-times were sitting on the porch, watching her favorite Westerns and soap operas, reading, and most importantly keeping up with what her kids and grandkids were doing. Her favorite foods were Kentucky Fried Chicken, picnic ham, muskrat, and all kinds of sweets, especially cheesecake. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward Nichols and Mabel Nichols-Brown; stepfather, Milton Brown; son, Wendell Wright; sister, Elmarie Deputy; great-grandson, Mervin Jones, III (MJ); and niece, Catherine (Poogie) Morris. Left to cherish her loving memories are her daughter, Glenda Winston (Kenny) of Felton; grandchildren, Tylisha Jones (Mervin) of Magnolia, Arielle Winston of Dover, Crystal Allen of Smyrna, Keith Wright of Washington, D.C., Douglas Harris of Dover, Wendell Wright Jr. of Florida, Michael Wright of Maryland, and Wayne Harris of Dover; great-grandchildren, Kayla Jones, Nikiya Bordley, Daevon Allen, and Cadyn Fountain, and a host of other great-grandchildren; nieces, Denise Coleman of Dover, Tonya Guinn of Magnolia, Fonda Coleman of Harrington, Shirlna Tolson of Magnolia, Shirlene Willis of Milford, and Shelly Morris of Dover; and a host of relatives and friends. Funeral services were Monday, March 12, 2012, at St. Paul AME Church in Harrington, where the Rev. Ronniere Robinson officiated and the Rev. Frances Benson delivered the eulogy. Interment was in the Williamsville Cemetery, Williamsville, beside her son.
