ROCK HALL, Md. - Helen Trew Durding of Rock Hall, Md. died on Monday, December 16, 2013 at Chestertown Nursing and Rehabilitation. She was 93. Ms. Durding was born on February 9, 1920 in Toronto, Canada. She was the daughter of the late Benjamin Trew Durding, Sr. and Daisy Bartholomew and granddaughter of the late T. Benjamin and Annie M. Trew Durding of Kent County and Mr. and Mrs. Alfred W. Bartholomew of Seaford, England. Ms. Durding was educated in Kent County Public Schools and was a graduate of Mt. St. Agnes School for Girls, Mt. St. Agnes College, and Mercy Hospital School of Medical Technology. Ms. Durding owned and operated Durding's Store in Rock Hall, Md. She was a charter member of Soroptomist International of Chestertown, Charter of Kitty Knight Questors, Board Member of Camp Fairlee Manor, Kent County Planning Commission, Women's League of Washington College, Kent County Historical Society, Rock Hall Garden Club, Rock Hall Museum, Rock Hall United Methodist Church and Jane's Chesapeake Crabettes Chapter of the Red Hatters. Ms. Durding was predeceased by a brother, Benjamin Trew Durding; a dear friend, Emil Myers; and a nephew, Benjamin Trew Durding, III. She is survived by two nieces, Janis Caldwell and her husband Leonard of Chestertown, Md. and Ellen K. Bryden and her husband Dennis of Rock Hall, Md; and great nieces and nephews, Katie Jo Donovan, James Benjamin Caldwell, Anna Caldwell, Timothy Hinefelt, Molly Bryden, and Megan Trew Fletcher. She is also survived by special friends, Frank Hogans, Sr., Alex Rasin, Elmer Horsey, Dean Wood, Art Willis, William Hepbron, Robert Ford, and Barbara Fancher. A memorial service will be 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014 at Rock Hall United Methodist Church. Interment will be private in Wesley Chapel Cemetery.
