MILFORD - Helen R. Allen, of Milford, Del., died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014 surrounded by her loved ones at the Delaware Hospice Center, Milford. Mrs. Allen was born in Greenwood, Del., the daughter of the late Albert and Helene (Wolters) Rumpstich. She worked as a Private Duty Registered Nurse for several years until the birth of her children, when she became a homemaker. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Milford, the Piecemakers Quilt Guild, and the Milford Senior Center. She loved to dance, play bridge and golf and enjoyed going to the beach with her family and friends. She also loved shopping for antiques, painting landscapes and making beautiful quilts for her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, John L. "Jack" Allen, Sr. in 2005; her son, John L. "Jack" Allen, Jr. in 1993; and her sister, Ilsa Rumpstich in 2006. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Ronald R. and Denise Allen; a daughter and son-in-law, Joan A. and Michael Maloney; a daughter-in-law, Sharon C. Allen; five grandchildren, J. Wesley Allen, Erika Lyn Allen, Megan A. Maloney, Tanner D. Allen and Chelsea Rose Allen; her sister, Lucy Hammond; and her special caregivers, Towanda Thomas, Candy Irving, Eartha Banks and Gail Bailey. Friends may call from 3 - 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 10, 2014 at the Lofland Funeral Home, 102 Lakeview Avenue, Milford. Services and burial will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to either the Piecemakers Quilt Guild, 42 General Torbert Dr, Milford, DE 19963; to the Milford Little League, P.O. Box 404, Milford, DE 19963 or to Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
