Harvey Preston Shockley, 78

LINCOLN - Mr. Harvey Preston Shockley, of Lincoln, died Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2008, in Carroll Hospice Dove House. He was 78. Born July 19, 1930, in Ellendale, he was the son of the late Wilson and Lillian Webb Shockley. He was the husband of Joan S. Shockley, with whom he would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Dec. 26. Mr. Shockley was a 1948, graduate of Milford High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1948 to 1950. He retired from Delaware State University as purchasing director, where he had worked for over 20 years. Following retirement he and his wife spent their winters in Bonita Springs, Fla. He was a member of Lincoln United Methodist Church, Moose Lodge 534 of Harrington, and the National Association of Purchasing Management. Mr. Shockley enjoyed playing pool and golf with a group of friends, and his morning coffee group at McDonalds. He also enjoyed being outside and doing yard work, eating out, and spending time with his precious granddaughter, Heather, who was the 'apple of his eye'. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are son and daughter-in-law, Daniel H. and Vickie Greenwood Shockley, of Union Bridge; granddaughter, Heather Shockley; brother and sister-in-law, Orville and Judy Shockley of Milford; brother and sister-in-law, G. Walter and Judy Swain of Lincoln; and nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. A graveside memorial service will be held in Lincoln Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to Carroll Hospice Dove House, 292 Stoner Ave., Westminster, MD 21157; or Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
