Harry D. Young

Harry D. Young, 82

DOVER - Harry D. Young, of Dover, passed away Thursday, April 10, 2008, at the Seaford Center. He was 82.

Mr. Young was born July 6, 1925, in Baltimore, son of the late John W. and Marie (Denson) Young.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving his country during World War II, playing a vital role in the Normandy Invasion, known as D-Day, operating landing craft that delivered our soldiers to Omaha Beach.

Mr. Young was employed as a lineman for 34 years with Delaware Power & Light in its Salisbury, Md., location. He retired in 1986.

He was an avid Baltimore Orioles fan, catching their games on television and on occasion attending a game at Camden Yards.

Mr. Young was a member of the Delmar Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8276.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his second wife, Frances Rayne Young, in 1998; a brother, Jack; and a sister, Louise.

He is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, H. David and Renee Young of Dover, Brian Young of Delmar and Scott and Diana Young of Ellendale; a daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Richard Parkinson of Bridgeville; a brother, Louis Young of Baltimore; two sisters, Shirley Schulte of Bel Air, Md., and Frances Gehring of Rising Sun, Md.; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday in Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Ave,, Milford.

Services with military honors will be 1 p.m. Monday at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro.

Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery.

The family has requested memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society, 92 Reads Way, Suite 205, New Castle, DE 19720.
