Harry D. McGinnes, 86

DOVER - Harry D. McGinnes of Dover passed away Wednesday, May 30, 2007, in Mallard Bay Nursing Home, Cambridge, Md. He was 86.

Harry was living with his son, Jerry and his wife, Debra and their children, Tabetha Marie and Jerry Allen Jr. in Cambridge.

He was born on Aug. 14, 1920, in Somerset, Pa., to the late Harry and Linnie Sanner McGinnes.

He was a life member of the Dover Elks, American Legion and VFW, all of Dover. Harry was a Purple Heart recipient, serving as a U.S. Marine on Iwo Jima during World War II, where he received a head wound.

Harry worked for many years with James Julian Construction and after retiring he worked for Trader Funeral Home in Dover.

He is preceded in death by his first wife, Susan Jones McGinnes; and a sister, Florence Griesbach.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Ida Virginia McGinnes of Dover; two sons, Harry David McGinnes Jr. of Crestview, Fla., and Jerry Allen McGinnes of Cambridge; four daughters, Harriett Rench of Dover, Florence Eckeard of Kenton, Jane Fierstein of Huntingtown, Md., and Sandra Burr of Keysville, Va.; stepsons, Albert Fierstein and Richard Fierstein of Maryland; 18 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Remembrance services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in Trader Funeral Home, Dover. Friends may call 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Monday in Trader Funeral Home.

Burial will be at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden.

The family requests that memorial contributions be given to Mallard Bay Nursing Home Cambridge, Md. and/or American Cancer Society.
