Harry A. Hutchins, 73

CAMDEN - Harry A. Hutchins of Camden passed away Tuesday, April 3, 2007, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover, after a long illness. He was 73.

He was born July 20, 1933, in Dover, son of the late Herbert and Emma (Morris) Hutchins.

Mr. Hutchins was a brick mason by trade and later became a supervisor for Mandes Construction Co. for several years. He was known for his carpentry, cement, block and remodeling abilities. He was also the blue print reader for almost all the masonry work on most of the schools in Delaware.

He was a past member of Trinity Wesleyan Church of Dover, and a member of the board of directors of the Willow Grove Church of God and named Father of the Year while he was attending. He was most recently a member of Edgehill Church of God of Dover. While attending these churches, he would give freely of his talents, doing repairing and remodeling, making him known as "Mr. Fix-it." He also was a charter member of Camden-Wyoming Moose Lodge, Chapter 203, and held the office of treasurer and trustee for years. He was honored with the naming of the baseball field after him.

Mr. Hutchins loved his Lord and personal savior and was forgiven for all his sins and reborn again and baptized under Pastor Milton Kemp.

His hobbies included baseball and softball, where he belonged to the DelMarVa Baseball Club, which he managed. He also managed many softball teams, and he was proud of and displayed in his home the many awards and trophies that his teams won over the years. In addition to baseball and softball, he enjoyed bowling.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, James Hutchins, Jack Hutchins, William Hutchins, Curley Hutchins, Franklyn Hutchins, Herbert Hutchins Jr., Clifton Hutchins and Richard Hutchins; and two sisters, Elizabeth Thomson and Emma Carroll.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Doris Hutchins; a daughter, Janice L. Cudd of Spartanburg, S.C.; a brother, Marion Hutchins of Fort Myers, Fla.; two grandchildren, Janakay Cudd Sinex and Jessi Brook Cudd of Spartanburg; two great-grandchildren, Jazman May Biggerstaff and Justin Alden Cudd, both of Spartanburg; a close friend, John R. Wharton of Camden; and several nieces, nephews and an extended family of church friends.

Services and burial will be private.

Mrs. Hutchins requested no flowers be sent, as she is allergic to them. Cards, however, are appreciated.

Arrangements are by Pippin Funeral Home, Wyoming.

Letters of condolences may be sent via www.pippinfuneralhome.com.
