Harriet P. Houston

NEWARK - Harriet P. Houston, 71, of Newark, passed away Sunday, Oct. 31, 2010, at Christiana Medical Center, Wilmington. She was born on Sept. 19, 1939, in Columbus, Ga., to the late John Pelham and Hilda Macon Wright. Harriet grew up in the Sylacauga, Ala., area. She enjoyed playing bridge, collecting miniatures and being with family and friends. She always had a joyous spirit and was a very giving person. The family would like to thank the Cadia Rehabilitation Center and Christiana Hospital MICU for their care to Harriet. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lt. Col. John Houston; and her son, John Michael Houston. She is survived by her daughter and her husband, Janet and Eric Nelson of Newark; father, George Wright of Florida; brother and his wife, James Ronald and Tonya Pelham of Florida; sister-in-law, Phyllis Maxwell of Ohio; cousins, Gladys Weber, and Tommy Cole; and six nieces and nephews. Burial services will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at the convenience of the family. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to American Heart Association, 100 West 10th Street Suite 1002, Wilmington, DE 19801, or your favorite charity.
