Harold Wayne Hollar

LENOIR, N.C. - Harold Wayne Hollar, age 77, of Joyceton Church Road, Lenoir, passed away Sunday, Sept. 18, 2011, at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care. He was born Feb. 24, 1934, in Caldwell County to the late Boyd and Bertie Mast Hollar. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Edfin Hollar; and three sisters, Christine Benfield, Dot Reynolds and Carol Hice. Mr. Hollar was retired from Playtex Industries after 30 years of service. He was a member of Whitnel First Baptist Church. Before moving back to North Carolina from Dover, Del., he was an active member of Assembly of God in Dover. He was also an avid sports fan of car racing, baseball, football, golf and was a big baseball fan of the Giants. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Nina Sides Hollar of the home; three sons, Wesley Miller and wife Charla of Lenoir, Keith Hollar and wife Terri and Bill Hollar and wife Joann, both of Dover, Del.; two daughters, Mrs. Regina Valentine and husband Jim and Renee Collins and husband Rick, both of Delaware; one sister, Mrs. Barbara Smith and husband Robert of Hudson; ten grandchildren, Kelly Schultz, Adam Schultz, Matt Miller, Lauren Miller, Brandon Hollar, Brian Hollar, Shawn Hollar, Shannon Hollar, Nicole Hayes and Michael Moore; five great-grandchildren; and two special brothers-in-law, Fred Sides, Jr. and Harley Dula. Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 22, 2011, at Whitnel First Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Stuart White and Pastor Roland Coon of Dover, Del. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers will be: Fred Sides, Jr., Harley Dula, Don Sides, Robert Smith, Greg Philyaw and Jim Valentine. Honorary pallbearers will be Adam Schultz and Dillon Franklin. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly request memorial contributions may be made to: Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care, 902 Kirkwood St., Lenoir, NC 28645.
