MIDDLETOWN - Harold B. Watts Sr., of Middletown, passed away on Monday, March 3, 2008, in Capitol Nursing Home, Dover. He was 87.
Born on Nov. 5, 1920, in Kirkwood, he was the son of the late Vernon Price and Hannah (Wright) Watts.
On Sept. 23, 1948, he married the former Margaret Sparks and together they raised their family in Middletown.
At the age of 21, Harold enlisted with the Army Air Force.
Following his discharge from the military in 1946, he went to work for the Middletown Transcript where he worked as a typesetter.
He later worked for the Star Publishing and the Newark Post until 1970.
In 1978, Harold obtained his real estate license and worked for several real-estate agents in the Dover and Middletown areas until 1996.
He was a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church in Middletown, where he served on many committees and held various offices, was a member of the Masonic Lodge 2 A.F. & A.M., St. John's in New Castle, and a member of the Scottish Rite, NUR Temple.
Harold was also a life member of the Volunteer Hose Co. of Middletown and during the late 1960s he was elected to the Middletown School Board where he served as president for four years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Franklin Watts.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Margaret; a son, Harold "Skip" Watts Jr. and his wife Kathy of Newark; a daughter, Linda Timmons and her husband Richard of Middletown; a brother, Ralph Watts of Newark; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be noon Saturday in the Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad St., Middletown, where family and friends may call one hour prior to services.
