HARTLY - Grover C. Norris, 66, of Hartly, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family on Monday, Feb. 14, 2011. Born on Feb. 22, 1944, in Wilmington, he was the son of the late William R. and Ann (Taylor) Norris. Grover grew up in New Castle, where he enjoyed working on and racing cars. He joined the Army National Guard after graduating from Browns Vocational High School in 1962. Later he met and married the love of his life, Rita Mahoney. After working for American Motors for nearly 12 years, he started his own trucking business. After dedicating 25 years to the trucking profession, he worked for Ralph S. Cahall and Son for three years. Following his retirement in 2007, he and his wife, Rita, relocated to Manning, S.C., to fulfill their retirement years. Together they enjoyed boating and fishing on Lake Marion. Most recently, they returned to Delaware and settled in Hartly. Grover enjoyed spending time with his family and seized every opportunity to harass and to give them a hard time in a playful manner, especially his grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by his loving family and many friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a special aunt, Dorothy Bevin. He leaves a legacy of fond memories to his loving wife of 40 years, Rita; a daughter, Cindy McCombs and her husband Jeff, of Harrington; a son, Robert Norris and his wife Kim, of Clayton; and five grandchildren, Jessica Norris, Christopher Marshall, Samantha and Alexandria Norris and Nicole McCombs. Friends may visit with his family from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday evening, Feb. 17 at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home LLC, 212 N. Broad St., in Middletown. Funeral services will begin immediately following a Masonic service at 8 p.m. Graveside services with military honors will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 19, at Townsend Cemetery, 759 Caldwell Corner Road, Townsend.
