GREENWOOD - Grace Thelma Kelchner-McCall, 85, of Greenwood, died Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2010, at home. She is the daughter of the late Howard and Mable Miller-Kelchner. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Henry McCall; and her son, Elmer Taylor. She was a past member of M.O.C.A . Milford Pup Tent # 4, Harrington V.F.W. # 6921 and Harrington Senior Center. In 2002, at the V.F.W. Convention, she won National Honors for sending the most cards to Veterans and others. She also was a member of Second Division Association and the Mid Atlantic Association. Mrs. McCall served as Class Historian in 1942 for Whitehall High School in White Hall, Pa. From 1943 to 1945, she worked at the Camden, N.J., War Plant as a Member of the U.S.M.C. before the War ended in 1945. She was also a Sunday School Teacher for 35 years and active Girl Scouts Leader for 15 years. The McCall's had a certified Wildlife Habitat and Preserve for both birds and butterflies in Delaware since 1994. Grace's major hobby of crocheting with wool helped make many lap robes for the Veterans, and butterflies, which are found in homes all over the U.S. and Europe. She is survived by two children, Thelma Johns of Greenville, S.C., Dorothy "Dottie" Slusarski of Buena Vista, N.J.; two grandchildren, James Parker and Lee Ann Parker Hale; also five great-grandchildren, Alysia, Sylena, Scott, Timothy and Amamda. Funeral Services were 11 a.m., Monday Aug. 30, 2010, Berry –Short Funeral Home, 119 NW Front St. Milford, where friends called from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Interment was held at the Delaware Veterans Cemetery, Bear. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Greenwood Cheers Meals on Wheels, 41 Schulze Rd, Greenwood, DE 19950 or to the Greenwood First Aid Squad, Greenwood.
