DOVER - Grace Jackson Gibson, of Dover, passed away Sunday, Feb. 8, 2009, at her home with her son. She was 82. She was born on June 14, 1926, in Templeville, Md., to the late Frank and Hazel Corey Jackson. Grace was celebrated for her keen sense of humor and iron-clad optimism, even during the worst of times, by her many friends, some of whom came into her life through her membership in the Presbyterian Church of Dover, The National Association of Retired Federal Workers, The Reserve Officers Ladies, and the Round Table Club of Wyoming. She expressed her love of singing in a variety of groups, over the years, including The Presbyterian Church Choir, The Singing Ladies of Camden, and The Singing Players with Margaret Story. She played basketball at Caesar Rodney High School from which she graduated in 1944. Her professional secretarial skills were called into service beginning with International Playtex, later she worked at The Farm Credit and her talents were also called upon during the earlier years of the Delaware Agricultural Museum in Dover. Finally she worked for many years for Dr. Leon deValinger at the Delaware League of Local Governments. She is preceded in death by her husband, Hugh A. Gibson; and her son, Bruce H. Gibson. She is survived by son, Michael Gibson of Dover; son, Rex A. Gibson of Bradenton, Fla.; granddaughters, Katie and Hilary Gibson of Middletown; grandson, Aaron Gibson of Middletown; and sister and her husband, Dorothy and William Breitenbach of Concordville, Pa. Remembrance services will be 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13 at Trader Funeral Home, Dover, where friends may call one hour prior. Burial will be at the Barratts Chapel Cemetery, Frederica.
