DENTON, Md. - Grace Beatrice Wayman, of Denton, departed this life Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2008, in Memorial Hospital, Easton. She was 86.
She was born April 24, 1921, in Pinetown, to the late Samuel Mason and Bessie Prattis Mason.
Grace attended public schools in Caroline County graduating from Lockerman High School in 1938.
In 1943, she married the late Bishop A. Wayman and from this union they had one son, William Francis Wayman.
Grace worked at the poultry plant, garment factory, and Feds Sportwear, which she retired from in 1985.
Her abilities as a seamstress were incredible. Grace's skills for making beautiful garments was outstanding. She sewed for friends and family.
Grace was blessed with a kind, loving, and strong determination to help others. Her loyalty ran deep. There was never a time she was not their for the ones she loved.
She never gave up on anyone and was always their with her arms open to help with the burden.
Her deep faith kept her strong.
She became affiliated with Bell's Chapel A.M.E. Church in 1972. Grace was a very motivated and active member in the church and community, receiving many awards in both arenas.
She was president of the usher board, member of the stewardess board, the Daisy A Lake Missionary Society, the senoir choir, and the Mannie Scott Post Auxiliary 193, where she also held the position of treasurer.
Grace was preceded in death by five brothers, Walter, Melvin, Issac, Goodie, and Samuel; one granddaughter, Kristal Sampson; and one great-grandson, Laron Brooks.
She is survived by one son, William Waymon I; three grandchildren, Twyla Morgan, Valerie Wayman, and William "Deke" Wayman II; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Catherine Mason and devoted Helen Mason; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday in St. Luke United Methodist Church, Denton, where friends may call one hour prior.
A public viewing will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday in Bell's Chapel A.M.E. Church, Denton.
Burial will be at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Hurlock.
