Gladys Mae Bailey

Gladys Mae Bailey, 67

DOVER - Gladys Mae Bailey, of Dover, passed quietly on Sunday, Jan. 18, 2009, at Wilmington Hospital in Wilmington. She was 67. Mrs. Bailey was born Sept. 30, 1941, in Exmore, Va., daughter of Melvin Johnson Sr. and Rachel Tankard-Johnson. She was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses and attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Woodside. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends and will be truly missed by all who came to know and love her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Debbie Denise Bailey; her four brothers, James Edward Johnson, William Alfred Johnson, Melvin Johnson Jr., and Arthur Alphonso Johnson; and one sister-in-law, Helen Jean Johnson. Mrs. Bailey is survived by her caring husband of 50 years, Linwood Bailey; and her daughter, Loretta Bailey, both of Dover. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren, Bryan, Tynita, Ebony, Demetria, Dominick, Tia and Amber; and ten great-grandchildren, Bryan, Ty'Rese, Bryhem, Ja'Quan, Tyion, Azion, Davarr, Destiny, Dashawn, and Dominick. In addition, she is survived by one sister, Inez Johnson of Dover; two brothers and their wives, Milton and Barbara Johnson of Exmore, Va., and Burleigh and Alberta Johnson of Magnolia; five sisters-in-law, Agnes Johnson of Exmore, Ida Mae White of Georgia, Betty Johnson, Rhina Johnson, and Ina Johnson, all of Dover; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and spiritual family. A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 24,at Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Dover, where friends may call prior to the service.
