DOVER - Gerard J. "Jerry" Smith Sr. of Dover died July 25, 2007, at his residence with his family in attendance. He was 60.

Born in Darby, Pa., he was the son of the late Herbert and Marie (Devlin) Smith.

Mr. Smith had been a proud member of the Plumber"s Union local 690 of Philadelphia and had retired in 2001.

He moved from Oxford, Pa. to Dover in 2003.

Mr. Smith had served as vice president of the Planters Run Homeowners Association and was truly well liked by those he befriended.

He had enjoyed motorcycle riding and was especially fond of flying recreational aircraft.

Mr. Smith will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Lynn Anne Daly Smith of Dover; a son, Gerard "Jerry" Smith Jr. of Oxford, Pa.; a daughter, Meg (Smith) Esser and her husband, Michael of Landenberg, Pa.; two brothers, Herb B. and Joan Smith of Chadds Ford, Pa., and Joseph B. and Diane Smith of Broomall, Pa.; two grandsons, M. Wyatt and Dieter Esser of Landenberg, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at 10 a.m. Monday at the Funeral Home of Michael J. Ambruso, 1175 S. State St., Dover.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at noon Monday at Holy Cross Catholic Church, S. State St., Dover.

Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in SS Peter and Paul Cemetery, Marple Township, Pa.

Family suggests donations in his memory to Delware Hospice, 911 S. Dupont Highway, Dover, DE 19901; or to the National Brain Tumor Association, 22 Battery St. Suite 612, San Francisco, CA 94111-5520.
