Gerald J.C. Bailey, 75
HARTLY - Gerald J.C. Bailey, of Hartly, died Aug. 1, 2009, from complications suffered in an automobile accident. He was 75. Mr. Bailey was born Feb. 17, 1934, in Chattanooga, Tenn., the son of the late John David Bailey, Sr. and Cordelia Hensley Bailey. Gerald was a certified auto mechanic for the Brandywine School Bus District for many years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and loved his garden and working in the yard. He was a man of humor and particularly loved spending time with his dog, Honeybear, and enjoyed cooking breakfast every morning for his dog. Honeybear enjoyed Mr. Bailey's daily pancakes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, James P. Lester; and a step-granddaughter, Jackie Brown. He is survived by three daughters, Geraldine J. Bailey of Wilmington, Jeannie Bailey of Crisfield, Md., and Cathy A. Roe and her husband Edward of Wilmington; three sons, Gerald D. Bailey of Wilmington, Steve Bailey of Newark, and Joe Bailey of Hartly; a step-son, Rick Brown of Elsmere; a brother, John D. Bailey, Jr. and his wife Ruth, and their son Scott of Townsend; a sister, Corabelle Brocolli and her husband Bill of Baxter, Tenn.; four step-sisters, Joyce Stephens, Diane Correll, Ina Lee Bowerman, Debbie Parker; 17 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; his companion, Martha Lex; and many others. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the American Heart Association, 625 West Ridge Pike Suite A100, Conshohocken, PA 19428. Services will be 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7, in the Faries Funeral Chapel located on 29 South Main Street, Smyrna. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Condolence letters may be sent by visiting
