George William Blanchfield, 86 DELMAR - George William Blanchfield, of Delmar, and formerly of Townsend, passed away suddenly on Saturday, July 5, 2008, in Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, Md. He was 86. Born on July 23, 1921, in Townsend, he was the son of the late George Henry and Reba Ella (Tucker) Blanchfield. George was a lifelong resident of Townsend, who within the past few years moved with his son to Delmar. For 11 years, he worked for General Motors and later went to work for Chrysler Corporation, where he worked on the assembly line as a relief man, retiring after 31 years of dedicated service. In his younger years, George enjoyed working on the farm, raising cattle and riding horses. In later years, he enjoyed traveling, camping and spending time with the many friends he made throughout the country. George enjoyed country music and dancing and often attended many of the dances held at the Loyal Order of the Moose and VFW Posts throughout Maryland and Delaware. He especially enjoyed listening to the Jones Boys. Most recently, he found great joy in spoiling the family goat with saltine crackers while inside the house. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Dixie M. (Justice) Blanchfield on Aug. 20, 1980; a son, Herbie; and two grandsons, Robert C. Mannering and Christopher Wilson. He leaves many cherished memories to his five children, a son, George C. "Joe" Blanchfield and his fiancé René Hunt, with whom he lived in Delmar; four daughters, Diane Mannering of Sandtown, Jeanie Blanchfield of Centreville, Md., Dorothea "Susie" Espil and her husband Felipe of Centreville, and Maryann "Cookie" Beauchamps and her husband Joe of Barclay, Md.; two sisters, Edna Prata of Wilmington, and Madge Watts of Townsend; 14 grandchildren, DJ Whitby, Richard Starkey, William Starkey, Scott Starkey, Charlie Blanchfield, James Wilson, Robert Biddle, Justin Eggleston, Edwin Frady, Judine Frady, Robert Mannering, Luke Blanchfield, Anna Blanchfield and Katie Blanchfield; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday in Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad St., Middletown, where family and friends may call one hour prior to service. Mr. Blanchfield will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife, Dixie, in Townsend Cemetery. Flowers are welcome or memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, Casho Mill Professional Center, 1501 Casho Mill Road, Suite 1, Newark, DE 19711.
