George Wesley Elzey Sr., 91

HUNTINGTOWN, Md. - George Wesley Elzey Sr., 91, of Huntingtown, and formerly of Wilmington, Del., died Sunday, Sept. 6, 2009, at his residence. Born in Salisbury, he was the son of the late Charles W. Elzey, Jr. and Georgiana Dashield Elzey. Prior to retiring in 1982, Mr. Elzey was employed as a supervisor at Shapdale Janitorial Service Company in Wilmington. He joined the Sanctuary At Kingdom Square, formerly Glendale Baptist Church, in Capitol Heights, MD in 1997 after moving to Huntingtown. Memories will be cherished by: his son, George W. (Edith) Elzey Jr. of Huntingtown; one sister, Harriet Brown of Bridgeport, Conn.; six sisters-in-law; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, in-laws, and friends. He has been preceded in death by his wife, Audrey A. Elzey; a stepson, James Clifton Trader; a grandson, Derek W. Elzey; two brothers, Meshach and Shadrach; and three sisters, Alice Cornish, Sarah Coulbourne, and Hester M. Deshield. Mr. Elzey will lie in state on Sunday, Sept. 13, 2009, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Lewis N. Watson Funeral Home, PA on 1618 West Road in Salisbury and on Monday, Sept. 14, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Sanctuary At Kingdom Square, 9033 Central Avenue, Capitol Heights. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Pastor Anthony G. Maclin will officiate. Interment will be in the National Harmony Memorial Park in Landover, Md.
