GEORGETOWN - George Washington Passwaters, of Georgetown, died Monday, March 3, 2008, in his home surrounded by his family. He was 87.
George was born in Mannayunk, Pa., son of the late Roland and Helen (Lloyd) Passwaters.
His family moved to Georgetown when he was a child.
He was a private first class in the U.S. Army serving during World War II with the 19th Gen. Hospital unit.
George received the European, African-Middle Eastern Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Croix De Guerre, W Palm Order For Army 758.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, playing cards, cooking and antiquing.
He was an antique dealer for 33 years, retiring in 2005.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Herbert Hoover Passwaters, Arietta Tucker, Marian Mitchell and Gladys "Toots" Schuyler.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Doris King Passwaters; eight children, Charles C. Passwaters and his wife Shirley of Okeechobee, Fla., Nelson Dennis Passwaters of Georgetown, George "Beetle" Passwaters and his wife Debbie of Georgetown, Donald L. Passwaters and his wife Beverly of Laurel, Cherie L. Passwaters of Georgetown, Norma "Sissy" Keene and her husband Danny of Trappe, Md., Kathy Prentice and her husband Mark of Wilmington, and Robert "Bobby" Passwaters and his wife Dawn of Lincoln; 18 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Kathleen King of Pennsylvania, Marie Rochelli of Wilmington, and Edna Neibert of Blades.
Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Friday in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown, where friends may call after 10 a.m.
Interment will be in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro.
