GEORGETOWN - George W. Carmean, 87, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend passed on to his eternal home with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Aug. 5, 2010. Born in Georgetown, on Nov. 8, 1922, he graduated from Georgetown High School in 1942. After graduation George worked on the family farm in Cokesbury where he resided his entire life. In his early years, he worked the family farm as well as tilling other local fields. In 1941, he met his beloved wife Doris on a blind date, to whom he was married for 66 years. He was blessed by the Lord to have a successful trucking business, George W. Carmean, Inc. which he owned and operated until his retirement in 1985. After his retirement, he loved attending sporting events of his grandson, Hal through his athletic career in school and college. He was a life long member of Cokesbury Church. The church closed in 1974, and George was instrumental in its upkeep for 25 years until it reopened in 1999, in large part due to his efforts and dedication, with his son Harold serving as Pastor. George's most apparent trait was his genuine concern for others. He was a strong and independent man who was always willing to help others in their time of need. George was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Horace L. Carmean and Ida E. Carmean; and a sister, Betty Ann Snyder. He is survived by his wife, Doris S. Carmean; son, Harold L. Carmean and wife Nancy; grandson, Harold (Hal) L. Carmean II and fiancé' Amanda; nieces, Pamela A. Snyder and Lisa K. Snyder; brother-in-law, Robert; sister-in-laws, Aline Marstiller and Pauline Stevenson. Friends and relatives are invited to his visitation Monday evening, Aug. 9th, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, Aug. 10th, at Cokesbury Church, 15092 Cokesbury Rd. in Georgetown at 1 p.m. Interment will be held in Union Cemetery, Georgetown.
