CAMDEN - George W. August of Camden passed away peacefully Sunday, Dec. 2, 2007, at Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 78.
Mr. August was born Jan. 10, 1929, in Warren, R.I., son of the late John M. and Rose (Wells) August.
He was a firefighter in New York City for 20 years and later worked construction for 12 years.
Mr. August was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War.
He was a member of Holy Cross Church, Dover, and the Knights of Columbus Color Guard Council 4182, for whom he enjoyed doing volunteer work.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Eric August; and three brothers, Robert W. August of Smyrna, Lincoln August and John August of New York.
He is survived by his loving wife, Elaine (Hinson) August; two sons and daughters-in-law, George A. and Laticia August of Huntington Beach, Calif., and Edward C. and Donna August of Cranford, N.J.; four brothers, Cody August of Dover, Ted August of Clayton, Robert August of Smyrna and Douglas August of Clayton; two sisters, Gloria August of Clayton and Rosemary Dixon of Galena, Md.; and four grandchildren.
Memorial services will be 12:30 p.m. Sunday in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 S. Main St., Smyrna.
