SEAFORD - George R. Ford Jr., 82, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family. Mr. Ford was born in Baltimore, Md., the son of the late G. Rodney and Dora Mae (White) Ford Sr. He owned and operated Ford's Lawn Service. He loved to hunt and fish. Mr. Ford was heavily involved with the community, and was always willing to help out anyone in need, especially his neighbors. He spent 45 years with the Delaware Hunter Safety Course as an instructor and trainer. He was a volunteer with American Legion Post 3 in Milford, and he a lifetime member of the Cedarfield Ruritan and worked their Turkey Shoot. He was a REACT member and was also helped out as a Santa Claus in the Milford community during the holidays. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Ford in 2007; and his brother, Richard Ford. He is survived by his children, Steve and Debbie Ford of Seaford, Glen and Sharon Ford of Round Rock, Texas, Sandra Vrhovac and Ellen Rodgers of Georgetown, Mark E. Ford of Felton, Lisa and Harvey Collison of Lincoln, and Georgianna Leisure of Milford; brothers, Owen and Ken Ford; sister, Fran Ratliff; 20 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, September 3, 2015 in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, Milford, DE 19963, where friends may call after 1 p.m. Interment will be in Milford Community Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donation's memorials in Mr. Ford's memory can be made to: Delaware Hospice Center 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963 or Relay for Life of Middletown c/o Susan Faulkner 92 Reads Way Suite 205, New Castle, DE 19720.
