DOVER - George Katcher, beloved husband, father, brother and grandfather passed away Friday, March 4, 2016 at Seasons Hospice. He was 73 years old. Born in Newark, N.J. on December 6, 1942. George was the son of late Abraham and Julia Katcher. He moved to Dover, Del. with the family while he was a senior in high school. He enlisted in the Navy and served as a corpsman in the hospital in Norfolk, Virginia. Upon discharge he returned to Dover to join the family restaurant "Russo's. After his marriage to Arlene they decided to open their own restaurant "Georgio's Italian Restaurant. After the sale of that restaurant they moved to Wisconsin to be close to Arlene's family. Upon his retirement from Goodwill and Arlene from Best Western they decided to move back to Delaware to be with daughter, granddaughter and great-grandsons. George was preceded in death by his father, Abraham Katcher; and mother, Julia Katcher. He is survived by his wife, Arlene of New Castle; brother, Richard Katcher and wife Ruby of Dover; daughter, Brenda Wood (Mike Wood) of Camden; granddaughter, Joyce Wood (Malcolm Crouch) of New Castle; great-grandsons, Malcolm and Calvin Crouch of New Castle; and nieces and nephews, Julie, Joey, David and Kathy Katcher and Lori Sebastian. George belonged to the American Legion and served as Post Commander of Walter L. Fox Post #2, Dover, Del. He was also involved with the Forty & Eight and served as Grand Chef de Gare of Delaware. He enjoyed the fellowship of his fellow servicemen. He loved spending time with family and friend's playing card, games and just having good time. Service will be held at Delaware Veteran Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, Del. on Thursday March 17, 2016 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in George's name to The American Cancer Society.
