George Herbert Baker, 95
HARTLY - George Herbert Baker of Hartly died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2006, in his home, surrounded by his loved his ones. He was 95.
He was born Aug. 13, 1911, in Delaware, son of the late Charles W. and Sallie (Hickey) Baker.
Mr. Baker was founder and owner of City Cab Co. in Dover for many years.
After he retired, he loved being in his yard, riding around on one his five tractors cutting his grass, planting bushes and being outside as much as he could. He also loved birds and squirrels and made sure there were always birdfeeders in his yard.
Mr. Baker will be loved and missed by all.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Charles Baker, the Rev. Charles W. Baker, William H. Baker and the Rev. H. Grier Baker; four sisters, Blanch Clendaniel Baker, Lena May Clendaniel Baker, Elizabeth Luff Baker and Ellen Guerrieri Baker; a son, Eugene Roland Baker; and his wife of 42 years, Edith M. (McFadden) Baker, in 2005.
He is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Shirley Wooters and her fiance, Lester Savins, both of Kenton and Nancy B. and James E. Tieman of Marydel, and Emma Romayne Seward and Melvin Thompson of Hartly; a son and a daughter-in-law, George H. and Tulia (Parisi) Baker of Wilmington; 13 grandchildren, Rick Wooters and his wife, Stacey, Randy Wooters and his wife, Kelly, Scott Tieman, Todd Tieman, Jody Tieman, Lisa Baker, Tony Baker, George Baker III, Michael Baker, Jeffery Baker, Deanna Baker, Billy Fields and Patty Fields; four great-grandchildren, Jessica, Rebecca, Desiree and Asia; and a host of other great-grandchildrem, nieces and nephews.
Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in Trader Funeral Home, Dover, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover.
