STROUDSBURG, Pa. - George H. Strunk Sr., 82, of Stroudsburg passed away early Wednesday Dec. 7, 2008, in his home. He was the husband of the late Evelyn E. (Smith) Strunk, who passed away Feb. 13, 1996. Born Aug. 18, 1926, in Stroudsburg, the son of the late Edgar and Martha (Sayer) Strunk. He was a lifetime resident of Monroe County. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II; as a Seabee in the Philippines. Prior to his retirement in 1992, he worked at the Stroudsburg Engine Works as a welder from 1955 until he retired. He was also the Chief Union Steward for local IAW. He also worked part time after his retirement for his son Keith at Tannersville and General Flooring. He was a member of the Badger Masonic Lodge, VFW in East Stroudsburg, Moose Lodge in Stroud Township, American Legion in East Stroudsburg and the CLU Club in East Stroudsburg. George was an avid golfer and loved to fish on his Canada trips, was also a little league coach. George is survived by his four sons, Edward T. Strunk of Bartonsville, Keith A. Strunk Sr. and his wife Georgia of East Stroudsburg, George H. Strunk Jr. of Pocono Lake, and Glenn L. Strunk and his wife Lee, of Magnolia, Del. His grandchildren, Keith Strunk Jr, Rachel Strunk, Gregory Strunk, Nathan Strunk, Scott Strunk and Jason Strunk; his great grandchildren, Keith A, Strunk III, Kaylee Strunk, Emily Strunk, McKayla Strunk, Teagan Strunk, and Travis Strunk. He is also survived by his sister, Beverly Angle of Victoryville, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews. George was predeceased by his brothers and sisters, Charles, Thomas, Vivian, Minnie and Betty. Memorial Military Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. today, Jan. 10, 2009, at the Joseph J. Pula Funeral Home, 23 North Ninth St., Stroudsburg with Pastor Thomas E. Anderman officiating. Cremation was in the H.G. Smith Crematory, Stroudsburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association of Pennsylvania, 2121 City Line Road, Bethlehem PA 18017.
