MILFORD, DE - George F. Miller (Ret. USAF Command Chief Master Sergeant) passed away on September 14, 2022 in his home surrounded by family. He was born in 1934 in Pittsburgh and educated at St. Henry Grade School and St. Joseph High School in Pittsburgh and Mt. Oliver respectively. He entered the U.S. Air Force in 1953 and served his country for over 33 years of continuous active military service, retiring in May of 1986. Upon his retirement he worked in the 436 Civil Engineering Squadron for an additional 21 years.
During Chief Miller's military career, he served tours at: McClellan AFB and George AFB, California; Otis AFB, Massachusetts (two tours); Dover AFB, Delaware (five tours); Sprang-Dahlem AB, Germany; Toul-Rosieres AB, France; RAF Alconbury, RAF Mildenhall and RAF Lakenheath, England; Da Nang, Vietnam (two tours); Tuy Hoa AB, Vietnam; and Korat Royal Thai AB, Thailand. During his times at Dover AFB he served in both the Field Maintenance, and Avionics Maintenance Squadrons and as the Command Chief Master Sergeant, formally known as the Senior Enlisted Advisor of the 436 Airlift Wing from 1973 to 1975 and as the Base Sergeant Major from 1975 to 1979. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign War and The Air Force Association.
George adored his wife and was a devoted husband, he was a proud father, grandfather and great grandfather. He loved animals and all the pets his children brought home over the years but especially his close companion, Dolly, his dog, a stray he rescued. He was very active in the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
George was the son of the late Charles S. and Eva M. Miller of Pittsburgh, PA. He is survived by his wife of over 64 years, the former Ann McDonnell of Dublin, Ireland; his six children: Paul and wife Maureen of Phoenix, AZ; Rosemarie and husband Randy Bennett of Milford, DE; Mark of Millsboro, DE; Patrick and wife Linda of Felton, DE; Carol Ann and husband Wayne Clark of Milton, FL; and John and wife Meg of Magnolia, DE, a sister, Eva G. and husband Edward Stasko of Carnegie, PA; nine grandchildren; one great grandson; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by: his parents; his brother, Charles Miller; his sister, Carol Ann Campbell; his daughter-in-law, Deborah Miller; and his granddaughter, Rachael Bennett.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Rogers Funeral Home, Milford, DE. Visitation will be held on September 26 from 6:00-8:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, 506 Seabury Ave., Milford, DE at 11:00am on September 27 with burial to follow at the Delaware Veterans Cemetery, Patriots Way, Millsboro, DE.
The family requests, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
