George F. Gage

DOVER - George F. Gage, of Dover, formerly of Smyrna, died Wednesday, November 12, 2014. He was 85. Mr. Gage was born on February 2, 1929 in West Hartford, Conn., to the late Charles and Blanche Gage. He was the youngest of eight children. Mr. Gage was a veteran of the Korean War, having served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954. He worked for Reichhold Chemicals in Dover, from which he retired. Mr. Gage was a man of faith and a voracious reader of many types of books, including the Bible. He was a member of the Dover First Seventh-day Adventist Church and a member of the Modern Maturity Center in Dover. He lived the last three years of his life at State Street Assisted Living in Dover, where he will be remembered for his kindness and the many hugs he gave to his fellow residents and staff. In addition to his parents, Mr. Gage was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Naomi Gage; and four siblings. Mr. Gage is survived by his three sisters, Grace Sillano of Chesapeake, Va., Ruth Veillette of Hartford, Conn., and Mary Steves of Phoenix, Ariz. A Celebration of Life will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, November 19, 2014, in the Dover First Seventh-day Adventist Church, 647 Wyoming Ave., Dover. Interment will be in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear at the family's convenience. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to State Street Assisted Living, 21 N. State St., Dover, DE 19901, memo: donation. Letters of condolences may be sent and guest book signed at www.torbertfuneral.com.
