George E. Johnson, 87

DENTON, Md. - George E. Johnson, of Denton, died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2008, at his home. He was 87.

Born in Caroline County, Mr. Johnson was the son of the late Franklin Johnson and Lillian Hamilton Johnson.

Mr. Johnson was a World War II U.S. Army veteran.

He was a farmer all of his life and also retired from the Caroline County Roads Department in 1986.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lou Johnson on July 27, 1989; three brothers, Howard Johnson, Paul Johnson, and Carl Johnson; and three sisters, Grace Shorts, Ruth Varisco, and Edith Mae Johnson.

Mr. Johnson is survived by three daughters, Vonnie A. Mende of Trappe, Cynthia Louise Geisel of Denton, and Wanda J. Cooper of Federalsburg; one sister, Dorothy Robison of Denton; four grandchildren, George Dixon, Heather Collins, Amanda Geisel, and Carrie Steenken; and three great-grandchildren, Caleb Steenken, Elizabeth Collins, and DeShawn Dixon.

The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Moore Funeral Home, P.A., 12 S. Second St., Denton, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.

The interment will follow in the Concord Church Cemetery.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the Caroline Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 362, Denton, MD 21629.
