George Allen Gibbs, 81

ELLENDALE - George Allen Gibbs of Ellendale died Saturday, Oct. 21, 2006, in his home, after a sudden illness. He was 81.

Mr. Gibbs was born Feb. 16, 1925, in Engelhard, N.C., son of the late William and Cora (Clayton) Gibbs.

He moved to Delaware many years ago, making Sussex County his home.

He worked for many years with M.J. Webb Farms Inc. He also worked as a truck driver and a factory worker.

After his retirement, Mr. Gibbs enjoyed working in his garden, sitting in his yard and going to Wilson's Auction on Saturdays. He was also still working part-time for M.J. Webb Farms.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, John Gibbs and Paul Gibbs; four brothers, Amos Gibbs, John Gibbs, Milton Gibbs and David Gibbs; and a sister, Ella Lee Gibbs.

He is survived by four sons and two daughters-in-law, George D. and Rossana Gibbs of North Charleston, S.C., Charles and Karen Gibbs of Bridgeville, Ira C. Gibbs of Dunwoody, Ga., and Donnie Gibbs of Georgetown; seven daughters and three sons-in-law, Georgia M. Kelly of Millsboro, Ruby and Don Queer of Mascotte, Fla., Dorine G. Harmon of Milford, Elizabeth and Larry Coverdale of Georgetown, Mary A. Gibbs of Beverly Hills, Calif., Susie Gibbs of Seaford and Paula and Willie Davis of Dagsboro; a brother and a sister-in-law, James and Ola Gibbs of Georgetown; 21 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in St. John's Second Baptist Church, Mount Joy Road, Millsboro, where friends may call one hour earlier.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in the church.

Burial will be in Georgetown Cemetery.

Arrangements by Miller Funeral Services, Millsboro.
