Geneva Woodall Spray, 92

CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Geneva Woodall Spray, of Chestertown, died Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009, at Chester River Manor in Chestertown. She was 92. She was born on Dec. 9, 1916, in Chestertown, the daughter of the late Edward E. and Geneva Cochran Woodall. She graduated from Chestertown High School in 1936 and in 1943 married Robert C. Spray Sr. Mrs. Spray spent most of her life as a homemaker raising and caring for her ten children. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Chestertown. Mrs. Spray was well known for her homemade rolls and for babysitting and caring for not only her family but also her friend's children. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert C. Spray Sr. in 1991; two sons, J. Edward Spray, Thomas W. Spray; two daughters, Ann L. Wahler, Betty E. Yiannakis; two brothers, Ed Woodall, John Woodall; one sister, Frances Schauber; one grandson, Daniel Wahler; and one great-grandson, Ethan Daniel Angell. She is survived by four sons, Robert C. Spray Jr. and his wife Carolyn of Chestertown, Charles A. Spray and his wife Janet of Millsboro, Del., David J. Spray and his wife Kelley of Rock Hall, Frank E. Spray and his wife Cathie of Centreville; two daughters, Marie Spray of Chestertown, Jane T. Yiannakis and her husband Ed of Chestertown; 30 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m., Friday, Sept. 25, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Chestertown. Relatives and friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 24, at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Rd., Chestertown. Interment will be held in Chester Cemetery following Mass. Gentlemen serving as pallbearers are Jason Yiannakis, Brian Rhode, Tommy Spray Fry, Jeff Spray, Mike Spray, Chris Spray, and Donald Spray. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be sent in her memory to the Alzheimer's Association Eastern Shore Chapter, 209C Milford St. Salisbury, MD 21804 or Sacred Heart Catholic Church 508 High St. Chestertown, MD 21620.
