MILFORD - Gary Burlingame went home to be with the Lord on Friday, November 25, 2022. Gary was born on May 9, 1940, in Milford, to the late Harvey F. Burlingame and Evelyn Z. Burlingame.
He served in the National Guard at the Harrington Armory from 1962-1968. In early years he worked at Bontrager Machine Works, and several other local businesses. In 1965 he was employed by Dupont of Seaford, where he worked for 27 years. He was an active long-time member of Laws Mennonite Church. He was a train fan since childhood and became a member of the DelMarVa Model Railroad Club, in Delmar, about 25 years ago, where he worked on the O Gauge layout with his cousin, Tim Burlingame and friend, Bill Hudson. The love of trains took him to New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and West Virginia, the favorite at Cass Scenic RR at Cass, W. Virginia. His love of machinery took him to local Steam Threshing Shows on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Near the end he would enjoy 'sounds' via Youtube. He was a great handyman around the house and for years he had a large vegetable garden.
He is survived by his sister, Elaine, with whom he lived at the childhood home and many cousins.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 2, 2022, at 12 noon in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 NW Front St., Milford, DE 19963, where friends may call after 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Barratts Chapel Cemetery, Frederica.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Gary's memory can be made to: Delmarva Model Railroad Club, PO Box 19, Delmar, DE 19940 or Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19663.
