'Fred' Gerkens, Jr., 86 TOWNSEND - Frederick William "Fred" Gerkens, Jr. passed away Sept. 13, 2013. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth "Betty Jean" Gerkens; three children, Fred Gerkens III, Barbara Bonk and Steve Gerkens; six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 11:30 a.m. on Wed., Sept. 18, 2013 at St. Joseph Church, 371 E. Main Street in Middletown, where friends may visit with Fred's family from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Interment will follow with military honors at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear, DE.
