Frederick Augustus Bennett II

MILFORD - Frederick Augustus Bennett II, of Milford, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2009, in the Delaware Hospice Center, Milford. He was 83. Born on March 22, 1925 in Slaughter Neck, he was the son of the late Edgar Hammond and Ella (Carey) Bennett. Fred was a dedicated Christian. He attended Pilgrim Chapel and was one of the founders of Christian Tabernacle. He has been a farmer all his life in Slaughter Neck and owner of Bennett Farms, Inc. In 1978, Fred was appointed by Gov. Pete du Pont to serve a three year term as a member of the Council on Poultry Promotion of the State of Delaware. In 1989, he became a member of the Delaware Century Farm Program. In 2001, he established the Bennett Farm Museum which holds a collection of antique farm equipment, furniture, house wares and memorabilia. He took great pride in this accomplishment as he was a proud farmer and family man who wanted to preserve his heritage for generations to come. Fred also served as a past Board Member for Southern States Cooperative in Milford. He also owned Bennett Bus Service for 31 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers Vinal Bennett and Hammond Bennett. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Ann (Rothermel) Bennett of Milford; his children, Frederick A. Bennett III and his wife Kaye of Milford, Marlyn Webb and her husband Ronald of Greenwood and Ella Webb and her husband Bruce of Milford; grandchildren, Shannon Davis, Mark Bennett, Carrie Shockley, Scott Webb, Shelby Bennett, Lauren Webb, Elizabeth Spigone and Lindsay Sapp; great-grandchildren, Skylar Bennett, Sutton Bennett, Seader Bennett, Haley Pagden, Isabella Spigone, Frankie Spigone, Cole Davis, Allie Mae Davis, Beau Davis, Leslie Webb, Leighton Webb, Peyton Shockley and Hayden Shockley; and his sisters, Luella Derrickson and Eleanor Warner both of Milford. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday and again from 1 to 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Christian Tabernacle, 18940 Johnson Road, Lincoln where funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Slaughter Neck Cemetery, Argos Corner, Milford. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963. Arrangements by Lofland Funeral Home, 102 Lakeview Avenue, Milford.
