DOVER - Franklin Joseph Markert passed away, Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2019 surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Markert was born Jan. 9, 1931 in Philadelphia, Pa. to George Markert and Catherine Boorse Markert. He was preceded in his death by his parents and siblings, George Markert, Helen Jernegan, Regina Ellis, Catherine Rosadillo and Dolores DiBiase.
Frank served in the United States Navy for 20 years during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He moved to Dover in 1962 to be the local Navy Recruiter. After retiring from the Navy in 1967, he worked at Kraft Foods in the research department until he retired in 1986. He then took a job with Hertrich Capitol as the car title runner for many years. He was a member of Holy Cross Church and was their baseball coach for the Holy Cross High School. He was a member of the Dover Elks Lodge #1903 and American Legion Walter L Fox Post #2. He was a good neighbor and friend and was always there to lend a hand. He was a fanatic about Philadelphia Eagles and a Phillies fan. Frank was an avid reader of books and loved Tom Clancy. He was the grill master, bubble gum blowing king, swim instructor, Popsicle and candy man. He was the patriarch of our family. His family was most important above all, enjoying family gatherings and picnics. Frank Markert was one of a kind.
Mr. Markert is survived by his wife of 65 years, Theresa Ann Jewell Markert of Dover; his daughters, Theresa Griffith Marriott and her husband David of Dover, Susan Markert and her fiance David Anderson of Wyoming; brother, Joseph Markert and his wife Gloria; sister, Mary Ryan; in-laws, Mary Faro and her husband Joseph, Thomas Burke and his wife Janet, John Jewell, Frank Jewell; his beloved grandchildren, Kyle Griffith and his wife Tracy, Joel Griffith and his wife Laura, Eric Griffith and his fiancé Delani Narvaez, Shane Angstadt and Caitlyn Angstadt; great grandchildren, Mason, Alexa, Ryder, Ellie and Madelyn Griffith, Alex Batton; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 2, 2019 at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Rd. (RT 10) Dover. Friends may call from 12 to 2 p.m. Interment will be private.
