CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Francis W. Elliott of Chestertown died Monday, Feb. 26, 2007, in Chester River Hospital Center, Chestertown. He was 68.

Mr. Elliott was born in Baltimore, son of the late Joseph Elliott and Esther Mae Middleton. At the age of 3, he moved to Kent County.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran.

Mr. Elliott always worked locally, including at Washington College and as a caretaker for the Hewes' Bachelor Hope Farm in Cliff City for 20 years. After retiring in 2000, he delivered for Anthony's Florist.

He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, Fairlee.

For his love of bluegrass music and playing the guitar, Mr. Elliott performed with Mason-Dixon Grass and 3 State Country Grass bands, playing gospel music. He also loved bowling, golf, playing cards, camping and animals.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Jeffery A. Elliott Jr.

Mr. Elliott is survived by his wife of 50 years, Margaret Holden Elliott; four sons, Rick Elliott and his wife Kathy of Fairlee, and Frank Elliott, Paul Elliott and Jeff Elliott and his wife Terri, all of Chestertown; a brother, Leon Elliott of Burlington, Texas; seven grandchildren, Brandi Scott and her husband Jason, Clay Elliott and his wife Amy, Drew Metcalf, Jason Elliott, Cody Ewing, Tiffany Elliott and Trey Ewing; and two great-grandchildren, Savannah Scott and Barron Scott.

Friends may call on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St., where funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m.

Burial will be in Old St. Paul's Cemetery, Chestertown.
