Francis Desper

HARRINGTON - Francis Desper of Harrington, son of the late John and Mabel Desper, passed away Thursday, January 21, 2016. He was 81 years old. Mr. Desper proudly served as a Corporal in the United State Marine Corp. as a part of the First Marine Division Recon during the Korean War. He was a life member of VFW Post #3238 in Camden. After the military, he worked as a carpenter, for FMC and Delaware County Housing. In his free time, Mr. Desper loved to go fishing, do wood working, and was an excellent cook. He was also known for having a garden the size of a football field, and sold his produce from a stand at the end of the drive. Mr. Desper is best described as a people person with a great sense of humor. Besides his parents Francis was preceded in death by his siblings, John Desper, Paul Desper, Benny Desper, Margaret Myers, Dorothy Petterman, and James Desper. He is survived by his loving wife, Loretta Desper; children, Sandra (Harry) Richardson, Francis (Suzanne) Desper, Jr., Lenette (Anthony) Mack, Gerald P. Brown, and Larry E. Brown; grandchildren, Amy Richardson Denardos, Eric Francis Ambler, David Richardson, Robert Desper, Nicholas Desper, Bailey Desper, Kelly Jenkins, Christopher Jenkins, and Sean Jenkins; great-grandchildren, Randi Denardos, Davion Chapman, Nico Desper, Hudson Jenkins, and Hunter Jenkins. Services will take place on Thursday, January 28, 2016, at the Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 S. DuPont Hwy., Harrington at 11 a.m., with a visitation one hour prior. Internment will be at the Delaware Veterans Cemetery Millsboro. Arrangements are by the Thomas E. Melvin & Son Funeral Home Inc., Harrington.
