Frances Teresa Buchanan Twardus, 87
MILFORD - Frances Teresa Buchanan Twardus, of Milford and formerly of Newark, died peacefully at home on Sunday, May 4, 2008, surrounded by her loving family. She was 87.
Mrs. Twardus was born in Wilmington, the daughter of the late Robert Stewart and Johanna T. (Roche) Buchanan.
She along with her late husband Stanley, owned and operated Stanley J. Twardus & Sons in Newark, a waste removal service, for 40 years before retiring in 1973 and moving to Milford.
She was a member of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, Milford, and attended St. Bernadette's Catholic Church in Harrington.
Mrs. Twardus loved to read and do word-find books.
She also enjoyed gardening with her late husband.
She especially loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Twardus was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Joseph Twardus in 1991; a son, John Edward Twardus in 1996; a daughter-in-law, Phyllis Twardus in 2005; a grandson, John Alan Carter in 2002; two brothers, Robert Buchanan and James Buchanan; and two sisters, Marie Ostendarp and Anna Steelman.
She is survived by three sons, Stanley Robert Twardus and his wife Anna of Rising Sun, Md., Joe Twardus and his wife Margaret of North East, Md., and Daniel Twardus and his wife Pat of Felton; three daughters, Frances (Sue) McKinney of Houston, Jo Ann Carter and her husband John of Milford, and Mary Jean Betley and her husband James of Bear; one brother, John Paul Buchanan and his wife Madlon of Wilmington; 23 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon Friday in St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, Seabury Avenue and School Place, Milford, where friends may call after 11 a.m.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Thursday in Lofland Funeral Home, 102 Lakeview Ave., Milford.
Instead of flowers the family suggests contributions to either the Little Sisters of the Poor, Jean Jugan House, 185 Salem Church Road, Newark, DE 19713; or to the Children's Miracle Network, 4525 S. 2300 East, Salt Lake City, UT 84117.
