Remley, 91 DOVER - Frances (Dempsey) Remley, of Dover, died Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012. She was 91. Frances was born June 30, 1920, and grew up on a farm outside of Leipsic, during the great depression. She was the eldest child of the late James Elias Dempsey and Blanche McClain Dempsey. Frances had attended Cheswold Elementary School and Dover High School. She joined the Navy during World War II and was stationed in Washington, D.C. Frances was very proud of being a WAVE in the Navy and always had a framed picture of herself in her Navy uniform in her bedroom. Frances was an avid traveler until she became ill. During her long illness, she would mention often how lucky she had been to have seen so much of the world, including: the Galapagos Islands, rafting down the Colorado River, canoeing down the Amazon River, watching baby turtles hatch in Costa Rica, kissing the blarney stone in Ireland, chipping ice off a glacier in Alaska to put in her Crown Royal cocktail, and on and on. She played the organ at her beloved Roby Methodist Church in Leipsic for decades and was a volunteer at Bombay Hook Wildlife Refuge and the Easter Seals Society. Her friends and family will remember her for her no nonsense approach to life and the advice she gave out freely, whether you wanted it or not. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold E. Remley; and her youngest daughter, Barbara Remley Behrens. She is survived by her daughters, Marilyn Remley Spong and her husband Matthew of Viola, and Anne Remley Harris of Wilmington; grandchildren, Maxwell Harris, Elizabeth Harris, William E. Behrens, and Rebecca J. Behrens, all of Wilmington; sister, Mary Jane Bell and her husband Freddy; and brother, James Dempsey and his wife Becky. Memorial services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, March 17, 2012, St. Patrick's Day, at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover. Friends may call one hour prior. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Friends of Bombay Hook, 2591 Whitehall Neck Road, Smyrna, DE 19977; Roby Methodist Church, P.O. Box 256, Magnolia, DE 19962; or Delaware Hospice, 911 S. Dupont Highway, Dover, DE 19901. Letters of condolence may be sent, and guestbook signed at www.torbertfuneral.com.
