Frances Hastings

Frances (Penuel) Hastings, 89

LAUREL - Frances (Penuel) Hastings, of Laurel, died peacefully Thursday, Feb. 21, 2008, at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford. She was 89.

A lifelong resident of Laurel, Mrs. Hastings was born to the late Howard and Vessie Penuel, formerly of Laurel, on Aug. 27, 1918.

She was an active member of Christ United Methodist Church, Laurel, which she attended regularly throughout her life.

Mrs. Hastings graduated from Laurel High School and Goldey Beacom College, Wilmington.

She was a member of the Seaford Golf and Country Club and the Friends of the Laurel Library.

Mrs. Hastings will be remembered by many friends and her fellow bridge players.

She was preceded in death by her beloved and devoted husband, Roland G. Hastings, in 1984. At the time of his death they were married for 44 years.

She is survived by her son, Barry G. Hastings and his wife Carol of Naples, Fla.; two loving grandsons, of whom she was quite proud, David, 16, and Mark, 12; and three nieces and nephews, Charles H. Landon, Bonnie Van Lier and Jeffery Landon, the children of her late sister, Ellen P. Landon.

A celebration of Mrs. Hastings' life will be at Christ United Methodist Church, 510 S. Central Ave., Laurel, at 11 a.m. Monday. Pastor Barbara Wilson will officiate.

Interment will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Laurel.

Contributions may be made in Mrs. Hastings' memory to her church, Christ United Methodist Church, 510 S. Central Ave., Laurel, DE 19956.

Arrangements are by Hannigan, Short, Disharoon Funeral Home, Laurel.
