MILFORD - Frances Ann Slonacher, of Milford, passed away quietly on Wednesday morning, Oct. 7, 2009. She was born Frances Ann Bass, on May 8, 1949, in Sumter, S.C. Frances was a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. She was kind, generous and devoted her entire life to helping others. She loved life, family and community, to the fullest. She achieved many successful accomplishments in her life, including being the first female police detective in Sumter, SC trained by the FBI to be the states sex crimes and homicide investigator, as well as the first female corrections officer in the state of Delaware. Her most crowning achievement, however, was raising her four sons. She loved traveling, plants and exotic birds. Her parents, Mackey and Grace Bass, formerly of Thompsonville and brothers, Charles (Peanut) Bass and William (Spunkey) Bass, preceded her in death. Frances is survived by her sister, Pennie Bass; brothers and sister-in-law, Jerry M. Bass, Sam and Cheryl Bass, Larry D. Bass; sons and daughters-in-law, David and Tiffany Hammond, James Hammond and fiancé Nena Todd, Matt Hammond, Garrette and Amy Slonacher, of Milford; nieces, Jennifer Clauges, Sara Bass; and nephews, Bruce Tucker, Charlie Bass, Nathan Bass; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and many great-nieces and nephews. In her lifetime, Frances moved and inspired countless people with Gods message and she will be dearly missed. A funeral service will be 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 10, in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 NW Front Street, Milford, where friends may call after 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in Milford Community Cemetery.
