Bernard, 80 Jean Bernard passed away surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, April 9, 2014. She was born on May 15, 1933 in Gastonia, North Carolina to James Coy Welch and Bessie Lee Welch. Jean was a graduate of Gaston Memorial Nursing Program. She worked in various fields of Nursing throughout the years and she inspired many of her children and grandchildren to have a nursing and medical profession. Jean married the love of her life, Donald W. Bernard, Sr. on September 3, 1955. She was predeceased by her husband, Donald in November 2012. Two brothers and two sisters also predeceased her. She is survived by her loving family, Melody J. Wireman and her husband, Eddie; her son, Donald W. Bernard, Jr. "Chuck" and his wife, Becky; her daughter, Mary J. Bernard and her significant other, Mike Sipple; and her daughter, Elizabeth A. Lucas "Beth" and her husband, Don all from Dover,De. "Nana" will be deeply missed by her grandchildren, Rebecca Soeiro of Swathmore, Pa., Jessica Jackson, Matthew Henry, Michael Henry, Megan McCullum, Jordan Bernard, Kristen Zeman, Kim Willoughby, Casey Clendaniel, Taylor Lucas Austin Wireman, Rachel Lucas all from Dover, De., and 14 great grandchildren. Jean is also survived by her sister, Evalee Cobb from Clover S.C.; a brother, Bryson Welch from Gastonia N.C., and many nieces and nephews. Her unconditional love and care for her family was her highest accomplishment. Through the years Jean enjoyed sewing doll clothes and quilting beautiful blankets that are being enjoyed by various family members. She was a lifetime member of the Helping Hands quilting group where she made many friends throughout the local community. Jean was a member of First Baptist Church of Dover. She will be remembered for her love of God and family. She will be truly missed and her life will always be celebrated by her friends and family. Mom/Nana we will love you and miss you! Viewing will be 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday, April 14 at the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming. Service will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church, Walker Road, Dover. Burial will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden. The family receive friends at the church one hour before service.
