Four Henlopen teams make DIAA boys' volleyball state tourney

DOVER — Four of the Henlopen Conference’s six boys’ volleyball teams have made the field for this year’s DIAA state tournament.

The 16-team tourney begins with matches on Tuesday and Wednesday.

On Tuesday, fifth-seeded Caesar Rodney (13-2) hosts No. 12 Smyrna (8-7) at 6 p.m. The Riders won both their meetings with the Eagles during the regular season.

On Wednesday, No. 3 Cape Henlopen (12-2) — the defending state champion — will host No. 14 Mt. Pleasant (8-7) while No. 7 Indian River (8-6) hosts No. 10 Conrad (9-6). Both matches begin at 6 p.m.

Salesianum (16-0) is the top seed in the bracket. The championship match is slated for May 23 at Smyrna High.
