MIDDLETOWN - Florence (Czarnecki) Pierce, of Middletown, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, Feb. 10, 2008, with her loving family by her side. She was 79.
Born on Aug. 1, 1928, in Wilmington, she was the daughter of the late William and Florence (Krupa) Czarnecki.
Mrs. Pierce graduated from Wilmington High School and through the nursing program at Delaware Hospital she became an RN in 1949.
She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Mrs. Pierce excelled in creative endeavors to include all types of needlework, ceramics and painting.
She especially enjoyed traveling with her husband and family.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Pierce was preceded in death by her son, John William Pierce in July 2006.
She leaves many cherished memories to her husband of 58 years, George W. Pierce; two daughters, Judith Pierce and her husband James Martin of Chestertown, Md., and Alice Moore and her husband Greg of Galena, Md.; a son, George E. Pierce of Middletown; nine grandchildren, Jesse Moye of White Oak, Ga., Matthew Moye serving in the U.S. Army in Iraq, George A. Pierce of Georgetown, Caitlin and Michael Pierce of Landenberg, Pa., and April, Greggy, Rebecca and John Moore, all of Galena; and one great-grandson, Ethan G. Moye of Williamsburg, Va.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday in Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad St., Middletown, where family and friends may visit from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.
Interment will be in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.
Instead of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Mrs. Pierce's memory to Odyssey Health Care, 1407 Foulk Road, Wilmington, DE 19803; or to the Alzheimer's Association, Delaware Chapter, 2306 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19805.
