FELTON - Florence E. String, 97, of Felton, formerly of Swedesboro, N.J., died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2011, in her home with her family by her side. Born in Swedesboro, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Frank B. & Verna K. (Bolton) Shaw. Florence was a graduate of Glassboro State College, and she was a US Army Sergeant during WWII. She was an elementary school teacher for over 30 years, teaching in Swedesboro, N.J., and also in Mary Shoemaker School in Woodstown, N.J., and retiring in 1974. She was a member of the Felton United Methodist Church and she was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and educator. Mrs. String is survived by her daughter, Frances Kadlecik; her sons and daughters-in-law, William Robert and Linda String and Donald and Jane String; her grandchildren, Patty, Billy, Danny, Stephanie, Jeff, and Mark; and four great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Clarence L. String. Friends are invited to gather from 1 to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 8, in the H.T. Layton Funeral Home, 102 S. Main St., Woodstown, N.J. A graveside service will follow at 2:30 p.m. in Lake Park Cemetery in Swedesboro, N.J. Memorial contributions in Mrs. String's memory may be made to Delaware Hospice, 911 S. Dupont Highway, Dover, DE 19901. Arrangements are under the direction of the H.T. Layton Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Woodstown, (856)769-1515.
