Evelyn T. Poggi, 92
HARRINGTON - Evelyn T. Poggi passed away peacefully at her home, on Monday, March 14, 2022, and in her words, finally with my Jesus and my hubby. She was born in Staten Island, N.Y. to the late, Davide Alfredo and Rosa Maria Ginocchio.
Mrs. Poggi worked as a secretary for an engineering firm in Manhattan for several years. She married her husband, John on January 17, 1953, and after he retired from the NYC Police Department, they bought a small deli on Staten Island. She did all the catering and made all the salads and earned the title, "The Salad Queen", by her children who also worked in the deli. After they sold the deli, they enjoyed travelling abroad and in the United States. The family then moved to Harrington, Del., where they enjoyed country living.
Her various hobbies included gardening, reading, bowling, crossword puzzles, Scrabble, Mahjong, and car rides with her husband. She loved her animals, especially her dog, "Foxy", and she made sure to put out her purple martin bird houses every year.
Mrs. Poggi was a member of the St. Bernadette Catholic Church, Woman of the Moose, Harrington Century Club, Harrington Historical Society, Harrington and Milford Senior Centers, The Red Hat Society, and the Milford Bowling League. She enjoyed volunteering for the Read Aloud Program, and the Lake Forest Food Pantry. She also entertained with a tap dancing group, "The Hubtappers", for ten years.
